Welcome to Friendship United Methodist
What is a Methodist?
We believe in the
*Availability of God's grace for all;
*The essential
union of faith and works;
*
Salvation as personal and social;
*The church as a community of Christ's
disciples who seek to
share in God's mission;
*The inseparability of knowledge and vital
piety as components of
faith
*Seeking holiness of heart and life both as
individuals and in our society;
*A cooperative
ministry and mission in the
world
*The
link between Christian doctrine and
Christian living
*Four main guidelines for belief...
Scripture,
Tradition, Experience, and Reason
The Heritage of FUMC
FUMC began in 1836 with a group of several
dozen Methodists meeting in a schoolhouse in
Lockland.  The congregation built their first
church in 1843, known as Lockland Methodist
Episcopal Church.  In 1874 the church moved
to South Wayne Avenue.  Over the next 60
years, the name of the church changed three
times, finally settling with Wayne Avenue
Methodist Church in 1941.
In the late 1950's, the church elders decided to
move to Wyoming.  The first worship services
were held in a home on the site of the current
church. The name was also changed to
Friendship United Methodist.  Today,
Friendship United Methodist church welcomes
hundreds of members for services and
programs throughout the week, and ministries
and missions that reach far out into the
community and world.
